The Brief
Mr Baguely recently contacted us at Crown Resin enquiring about replacing his driveway and path to his house.
This space was unique because it had two sides with a slight slope between them and stairs down from the garage to the front door. One side went up to the garage and was used as a driveway, while the other side was a pathway to the front door from the pavement. Therefore, we needed to plan to design and install a uniform driveway that matched the aesthetic of the house while being able to merge the two sections.
Additionally, Mr Baguely had charcoal edging around the driveway and was keen to keep the charcoal grey brick to create a boundary for his new resin driveway.
What Did We Do?
We started our process with a consultation, where we visited the property to assess the current driveway and discuss his vision and an installation date.
On this visit, we noted that the current brick driveway was functioning. Therefore, we decided that we would be able to lay the aggregate stone and resin over that material.
However, the pathway leading to the door from the pavement needed a little more attention, so we decided to dig up that section and lay a new subbase down before overlaying it.
Digging up the pathway was the first step, leaving the patio at the bottom of the stairs in place. This was then followed by laying the sub-base.
With the sub-base in place and levelling out that section, we fitted a crack-resistant membrane between the patio and sub-base and the remaining brick driveway and the sub-base. This prevents any damage or cracks from forming in the new resin surface once installed.
The final step was to lay the aggregate stone and resin down the driveway, the steps and over the patio and sub-base. For this, Mr Baguely chose Cappuccino Derbyshire aggregate.
Challenges Faced
The weather presented challenges as we needed it dry to lay the resin surface. Therefore, the damp conditions meant we had to postpone the project slightly.
When we agreed on a date with Mr Baguely for this installation, we expressed this was weather-dependent and that we would contact him with confirmation of our plans to either start or postpone the project as soon as possible. We were able to arrange another day when we didn’t face any challenges from the weather.
The Results
The finished result was a smart, unified driveway with charcoal paving to define the boundary between the neighbour's drive at the side and the pavement in front.
We were able to provide the client with excellent customer service, and he was happy with the results we delivered.
